CAPS LOSE 4-2 to Pembina Valley
The Caps played host to league leading and undefeated Pembina Valley on Tuesday in Portage and although the Caps outshot the Hawks 41-30 they were unable to come up with a win. The Caps had a territorial edge in the game most of the night especially in the 1st and 3rd periods when they outshot PV 15-9 in both periods.
The Hawks opened the scoring and lead 1-0 after the 1st but the Caps responded to tie the score in the 2nd with the only marker when Jillene Rodgers scored on a rebound. The period ended with the score 1-1.
Jacey Schettler stopped all 12 shots fired at her in the 2nd and came up with several keys saves in a wide open period where the Caps outshot PV 13-12.
In the 3rd the Hawks scored early to make it 3-1 but the Caps responded when Dakotah Boehlig scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to make it 3-2. The Caps continued to press and their forecheck kept PV tied up in their own end however they could not beat Shanley Peters in net again as she stopped 39 of 41 pucks fired her way with numerous saves being point blank shots. With the Caps pressing and taking chances to tie the game the Hawks scored an insurance goal late to make it 4-2 on a breakaway that saw the Caps D pinching in an effort to create offense.
