The Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League has come up with a Logo they believe will provide the league with a professional and recognizable symbol in assisting the promotion of the league throughout Manitoba and Western Canada. The Logo was created by Tri-Star Printing of Brandon and will be utilized on all MFMHL apparel.

CAPS ELIMINATED FROM 2010 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Caps were defeated 4-0 by league rivals Pembina Valley who came into the Provincials as the #2 seed. Very questionable officiating turned a 1-0 first period lead for PV into a 4-0 second period score as the Hawks benefitted from 3 Power Play goals. On several occassions the Caps received penalties when they actually thought they were about to receive the Power Play.
The Caps came out flying in the first 7-8 minutes of the 1st period but could not cash in on several great scoring chances. Throughout the game when the play was 5 on 5 the Caps would play PV even or control play but were just unable to find the goal they needed. In the 1st and 3rd periods when the teams played 5 on 5 hockey the Caps outshoot the Hawks 14 to 13 however during the 2nd period when the referee in the eyes of most people in the Arena seemed to lose control and put the Caps on 5 penalty kills including a very poor 5-3 disadvantage the Hawks had 17 shots on net. Jacey Schettler was great in keeping the score at 4-0 during the middle frame between the pipes for the Caps.
In the 3rd period the referee once again put her whistle away for the most part and the teams battled to a 0-0 score leading to the 4-0 finish thus elimintaing the Caps from further play in the Provincial Championships. The coaching staff was very please with the teams effort all weekend and the players battled right to the last whistle playing through questionable officiating with dtermination and class.
The Caps still have lead playoffs coming up in mid March and 10 of the Caps will be competing for Central Region in the Manitoba Games March 7-10 in Portage la Prairie.

Jacey Schettler solid in net for Caps in Provincials.
CAPS EARN BERTH IN CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET OF PROVINCIALS
The Caps defeated the Brandon WheatKings 5-2 in their second game of the Provincial Female Midget Championships in St. Anne. The victory has secured the Caps a Quarterfinal appearance in the Championship Bracket for the first time in their short history. Last season the Caps played in the Consolation Bracket of the tournament after pool play.

The Caps got goals from 5 different players as well as solid goaltending from Jacey Schettler. Shaye Nelissen, Dakotah Boehlig, Maggie Girard, Jillene Rodgers and Jennifier Bell all scored for the Caps.Courtney Nichol had a solid game for the Caps picking up 4 assists while Girard added 2 with single helpers going toTaylor McVannel, Callan Harland, Lindsay Blight and Alyson Vercaigne.

The Caps continue to play without leading scorer Natasha Kostenko who is out with an injury. As of the reporting of this game the Caps were still uncertain of the time and opponent for their Quarterfinal game as RR games were still being played.

Caps lose 2-0 to Eastman in First Game of Provincials
The Caps got strong goaltending from Jessica Hewko who gave up 2 first period goals and then shut out one the best teams in the Province for 2 periods. This however was not enough as the as the Caps could not find a way to score in a 2-0 loss to Eastman Selects. The Caps played a solid game and had their chances but without leading scorer Natasha Kostenko found no goals.
The Caps found themselves killing off several penalties as the refereeing was very suspect all game and never gave up a short handed goal all night. The Selects second goal was actually never in the net and the referee never indicated goal but for some reason counted it putting the Caps down 2 after one period. The game went back and forth from here with the Caps putting out a solid effort only to come away empty handed.

CAPS TIE YELLOWHEAD IN LAST REGULAR SEASON GAME
Natasha Kostenko had 5 points including 4 goals while Taylor McVannel (goal and 2 assists) and Shaye Neliseen (3 assists) each had 3 points to lead the Caps to a 7-7 tie with Yellowhead in the last MFMHL regular season game of the year. The result had no bearing on the final league standings as the Caps had already secured 2nd place and will have home ice advantage vs. the 3rd place Chiefs in the first round of MFMHL playoffs with dates yet to be determined.
The Caps also got goals from Courtney Nichol and Nikki Bell with assists being picked up by Maggie Girard, Jenna Cyrenne and Jillene Rodgers.
The Caps had 5 leads during a back and forth game that was exciting in its result but defensively sloppy at times as both teams left their goalies at the mercy of the other teams shooters. The Caps held period leads of 2-1 and 6-5 plus lead 7-5 with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd period only to give up the equalized with 28 seconds remaining in the game.
The Caps still had a chance to win the game in the last 15 seconds when Kostenko won a draw clean back to the point in the Yellowhead end only to have Nelissen ring a slapshot off the cross bar that beat Chief's goalie Sarah Harrison cleanly but not the pipe. Jacey Schettler earned the tie between the posts for the Caps and made several key saves and could not be blamed for most of the goals allowed as the Caps who are generally defensively responsible left her unprotected on several occassions.
The Caps welcomed Taylor McVannel and Maggie Girard back to the lineup from injury but still found themselves with a short bench as Callan Harland (illness) and Alyson Vercaigne (prior commitments) did not play. The two, both rookies, have become important parts of the Caps as they are contributing offensively especially over the last month of the season but also are utilized as front line penalty killers.
The Caps now practice Monday and then start their Provincial Championships on Thursday in St. Anne.
