Ferdi Nelissen will be returning for his 4th year as the Head Coach of the Capital Program in 2010-11. The Regional Committee responsible for the the Male Capital Programs (MMHL AAA and 15-16 year olds) along with the Female Caps selected Nelissen to return for another season. Nelissen decided to put his name forward although his daughter has graduated from the Caps and is moving on to play for NCAA Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets next season. He believes it is important to try to establish neutral coaching at the Regional Level for the Female Caps Program.
Nelissen is very excited about the returning players that will be available for the Caps with 10 having made Team Central for the Manitoba Games where they won Gold and 9 attended Hockey Manitoba's Spring POE Camp with 5 selected to move onto the Summer Camp of 40.
Nelissen brings over 12 years of Coaching experience in hockey to the Caps program with 6 being in Female Programs with Portage Minor Hockey and the Region including being the Central Plains Head Coach for their Female Bantam Challenge team for the past 5 years as well as being on the staff for the 2010 Gold Medal winningTeam Central at the Manitoba Games. He has also been utilized by Portage Minor Hockey (PMHA) as an evaluator for their "AA" Programs and is currently an evaluator within Hockey Manitoba's Female Under 18 Program of Excellence to select Team Manitoba for the 2011Canada Winter Games. Nelissen is also a coordinator for the Portage Minor Hockey Summer Camp where he is part of the on-ice instruction and responsible for the Dry-land component of the Camp.
Nelissen's other experiences in coaching include coaching Mens Fastpitch at the Elite Level within the International Softball Congress and at 4 World Tournaments where his teams made the Playoffs each year. As well he has also coached Female Softball at the Women's Open level, Female "A" within the Winnipeg Lightning Youth Program and Varsity Male Volleyball at PCI. Nelissen has a Degree in Physical Education from the University of Manitoba and is a Certified Coach at the DI Level.
The Caps are currently finalizing the coaching staff which will be announced over the next 7-10 days along with announcements coming soon in regards to the 2010-11 season including their participation within the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League and various tournaments including potential competitions in the USA.
