CAPS FINISH FIRST HALF OF SEASON STRONG

LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT IN THE SECOND HALF OF SEASON

The Female Capitals finished the first half of the season leading up to the Christmas Break strong losing only 3 of their last 14 games, during this stretch they picked up 7 wins and 4 ties while starting the season off 2-6-1. The team lost some very tough games during that stretch which saw them lose 4 1-goal and 2 2-goal games. The team is 5-2-3 over their past 10 games and have improved their MFMHL record to .500 while moving their season record to one game over .500 at 9-8-5.

The Coaching staff feels this is a result of the effort put forth by the players which has seen them have high quality and fast paced practices for the past 6 weeks and has directly related to improved results in game settings. The effort put out by the entire team during practices has led to improved specialty team play, solid 2-way play by all 3 lines and solid improved play from the defense. Having received solid goaltending from the beginnig of the season the Coaches feel if the players continue to work as hard as they have they will be rewarded with a solid second half to the season.

The team has been solid defensively giving up an average of 2 goals per game, only 44 goals in 22 games, but continues to work on their offensive play which has seen them score just under 3 goals per game in the first half. The coaches have been pleased with the improvement in the team generating more shots to the net and getting rebounds as well as increased use of the defense in the offensive scheme resulting in increased production from the point over the past few games leading up to the break.

The team will be looking to continue to improve their record within the MFMHL to hopefully get as high a seed as possible for the playoffs as the MFMHL is now the Provincial "AAA" League. This is highest level in Manitoba for Midget Aged Players and the winner of the MFMHL will be the Manitoba Representative to compete at the Regionals vs. Saskatchewan for the right to attend Hockey Canada's Esso Cup Midget National Championship.
