CAPS FINISH JETS SERIES WITH 2-2 DRAW vs. HOST ST. MARY'S
The Caps finished off their weekend in the St. Mary's Academy Jets Series with a 2-2 tie vs. the host Flames leaving them with 2 wins and 1 tie and the best record in the 4 team event. The game was fast paced although somewhat sloppy as both teams were playing their 3rd game in 3 days.
The 1st period saw both teams struggle to create much offense as the Caps outshot the Flames 6-4 with no scoring and an intermission score of 0-0.
Meike Meilleur gave the Caps a 1-0 lead early in the 2nd period as she stripped a St. Mary's player in neutral ice and scored shorthanded with a nice slapshot to the top corner. However before the end of the 2nd period the Flames would score twice, once shorthanded as well, to take a 2-1 lead after the 2nd period. The Caps were outshot in the period 8-3 and solid goaltending from Elisha Oswald kept the Caps in the game.
The Caps regrouped in the intermission and came out with their best period of the game as they outshot the Flames 10-7 and scored their second goal to tie the game when Taylor Boehlig beat the St. Mary's netminder with a wrist shot that seemed to fool her, Callan Harland and Sheridan Oswald picked up assists on the play. The Caps continued to get chances but several good saves and a goalpost kept the Caps from scoring. The Caps were forced to kill off a penalty in the last 3 minutes of the game and with the kill were perfect for the game including a 5 on 3. This continues to be a real strength for the Caps as they were perfect on the weekend killing off all 10 powerplays awarded their opponents over the 3 games.
