CAPS SEASON ENDS WITH TOUGH OT LOSS

The Caps outshot and outplayed the Westman Wildcats in the 4th game of their MFMHL playoff series unfortunately were unable to outscore them as they dropped a tough 4-3 OverTime decision in being eliminated from further MFMHL play by dropping the series 3 games to 1. The Caps actually outshot and out chanced the Wildcats in 2 out of their 3 losses and were very unlucky not to force a game 5.

The Caps controlled most of the game and directed 32 shots at the Wildcats net compared to the 17 they gave up. The Wildcats were very opportunistic scoring on a couple of defensive breakdowns by the Caps.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 1st period deadlock where the Caps outshot Westman 8-5 but definitely had a majority of the territorial play.

The 2nd period again saw the Caps outshoot and keep the Wildcats bottled up but ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 2nd period intermission score. Westman went ahead 1-0 just 30 seconds into the period but the Caps rallied back when Meike Meilleur scored on a rebound, assists on the play went to Alyson Vercaigne and Callan Harland.

The 3rd period saw the Caps tie the score 5 minutes in when Courtlyn Oswald scored on a one-timer from the slot on a nice feed from Maggie Girard from below the Westman net. The Wildcats regained the lead 3 minutes later however Maggie Girard made it 3-3 on a great backhand to the top corner after she picked a rebound in the slot with 6:30 remaining in the 3rd, Courtlyn Oswald picked up the assist on the play. The 2 teams could not settle anything in regulation time setting up OT where both teams fired 3 shots at net with the Wildcats 3rd shot from just inside the blueline eluding Caps' netminder Elisha Oswald.

The Caps season ended with this loss however the team had an extremely successful run over the past 4 months especially after starting the season at 3-6-1 in October and then going 17-6-7. During this stretch the Caps never lost any game by more than 3 goals and 4 of their 6 losses were by 1 goal.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ENTIRE TEAM ON A SUCCESSFUL SEASON
