CAPS TIE REGINA - FINISH 2-0-2 in SWIFT CURRENT
Game 4 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7
8:00 am – Regina Rebels vs Central Plains Capitals (Fairview West Arena)
The Caps finished off a successful trip to Swift Current with a solid effort and a 2-2 tie with a talented and physical Regina Rebels team which finished first overall in the Sask. AAA League last season. Katie McCartney scored both Caps goals in the first period which saw all the scoring. The Caps did continue to press for the win and over the 2nd and 3rd periods outshot Regina 22-7 but could not find the winner. Sara Cusak and Lauren Taraschuk split the final game in net for the Caps providing the team with another solid outing between the pipes.
The Caps now practice 3 times this week and will continue to practice and workout over the next 2 weeks leading up to their own Showcase Sept. 26-28 at the PCU Centre in Portage. The Schedule will be posted later this week
CAPS PICK UP TOUGH WIN OVER WEYBURN
Game 3 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
6:00pm – Central Plains Capitals vs Weyburn Gold Wings (Fairview West Arena)
The Caps played their game in 24 hours and although the play during the third period started to so with some sloppy play by both sides they were able to hang on and claim a 4-3 wiover the Weyburn Gold Wings. The Caps received solid goaltending from Lauren Tarachuk who made several huge saves during a back and forth contest. Sheridan Oswald had a goal and an assist to lead the Caps' offensive while Eryn Stewart, Kantara Robertson and Chelsea Hallson all had single markers. Tamara McVannel picked up to helpers while Emily Upgang picked up a single assist. The Gold Wings are the defending Esso Cup National Midget Champions and although it was an exhibion game the Caps were were pleased with the result. The Wings trailed 4-1 to the Caps part way through the 3rd perid and showed the Caps how tough they could be storming back with 2 goals in he last 3 minutes to make it interesting.

CAPS PICK UP FIRST WIN
Game 2 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
8:00am - Central Plains Capitals vs U16 Team SK (Fairview West Arena)
The Caps picked up their first win of the 2014-15 season with a 2-1 exhibition win over the Saskatchewan U16 Provincial Team in Swift Current. The Caps got off to a slow start in the first period and although they had several quality scoring chances were outshot 6-2 by the fast skating Saskatchewan Squad. The second period saw the Caps reverse the tide outshooting their opponents 10-5 and take a 1-0 intermission lead on an unassisted goal by rookie Haley Proteau on a breakaway after she forced a turnover at the Caps blueline.
The Caps continued to carry the play in the final period and would take a 2-0 lead when veteran Tamara McVannel intercepted the puck in neutral ice and gain the the offensive zone before stepping into a hard slapshot that would beat the Sask goalie clean just inside the far post. This score held up until there was 4 seconds left in the game and the Sask U16 team scored on a 6 on 4 powerplay with the goalie pulled. Sara Cusak was solid in net for Caps stopping 15 of 16 shots fired her way while the Caps directed 25 at the Sask. net. See Schedule Below for Caps next Game!
Caps Start Season with a solid Effort in 1-1 Draw with Swift Current
Game 1 - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
5:30pm – Swift Current Wildcats vs Central Plains Capitals (Fairview West Arena)
The Caps are in Swift Current Saskatchewan for a 4 game preseason exhibition series from Sept. 5-7 and started the weekend off with a hard fought 1-1 tie with the host Wildacts. The Caps controlled a majority of the play outshooting their hosts 30-11 however had to come from behind with a 3rd period marker to earn the tie. Emily Upgang notched the 3rd period goal with assists going to Sheridan Oswald and Bryn Schmidt. The Caps carried the play however goaltender Kathleen Kosiar had to be sharp as the Caps got caught a few times pressing for an equalilizer including stopping a breakaway in the 3rd period.
