Caps lose another 1 goal game.
The Caps again outshot there opponents, 39-31, but came out on the wrong end of a 5-4 score vs. first place Eastman Selects.
Scoring for the Caps were Shaye Nelissen with a pair, Courtney Nichol and Jennifer Bell. Assists were picked up by Taylor McVannel, Jillene Rodgers and Nikki Bell.
The Caps fell behind 2-0 after the 1st period as Suzanne Cortilet netted 2 of her 3 goals in the 1st. The Caps battled back to make it 4-3 after the 2nd outscoring Eastman 3-2 in the period and firing 17 shots on goal. First with the score 2-0 Nelissen took a pass at the point from Jillene Rodgers prior to making a nice move around a defender before roofing a slapshot over the shoulder of Zoe Sullivan in net for Eastman. Cortilet would make it 3-1 before Jennifer Bell would again close the gap to one when she slid into the high slot from the point and took a perfect pass from her sister Nikki to score on a nice shot through a screen, Taylor McVannel picked up the second assist. Darion Bruyere-Fontaine would restore Eastman's 2 goal lead with 2 minutes left in the period but the Caps would again bring it back to one prior to the end of the period when Courtney Nichol scored an unassisted marker with 17 seconds left in the period after some great forechecking and stripping the defence of the puck prior to moving into the slot and netting a nice shot over Sullivan's blocker.
In the 3rd period the teams exchanged goals with Riki Krentz scoring on a rebound to provide Eastman with their 4th 2 goal lead of the game. The Caps kept pressing and Nelissen scored her second of the game unassisted as she had gone down low off the point for a previous offensive attack and picked up a clearing attempt by Eastman and again beat Sullivan with a hard slapshot top shelf over the blocker side. The Caps continued to press for the equalizer and had several quality scoring chances with the net empty but could not get another puck past Sullivan who faced 31 shots in the final 2 periods.
Mykala Rodgers took the loss in net for the Caps stopping 26 of 31 shots fired her way. Sullivan stopped 35 of 39 Caps shots.
