The Caps played 2 games over the weekend losing 8-5 in St. Pierre vs. Eastman on Sunday before defeating Brandon 4-2 in Portage in an afternoon contest on Monday. CAPS LOSE 8-5 to Eastman In St. Pierre the Caps erased a 3-1 1st period deficit and had the game tied 4-4 after the 2nd and 5-5 with 8 minutes to go prior to giving up the lead on a controversial goal while killing a penalty where a Cap player was clearly hit from behind with no call, while the Cap player lay injured the play was allowed to continue and saw Eastman score. Although the Caps continued to press and had several chances questionable calls continued to be called and Eastman scored 2 more Power Play goals. The game had some positives as the Caps continued to produce offensively as Natasha Kostenko continued her hot play scoring 4 goals and picking up an assist on Nikki Bell's 2nd period marker. The Caps were able to fire 37 shots at the Eastman net. Assists went to Shaye Nelissen (2), Jenna Cyrenne (2) Taylor McVannel, Katie Nichol and Lindsay Blight. Defensively the Caps continued to struggle with defensive coverage and goaltending allowing 8 goals while outshooting Eastman who had 32 shots on goal. Taylor Mutcher was in net for the Caps. CAPS DEFEAT BRANDON 4-2 The Caps picked up a win on Home ice by defeating Brandon 4-2 in game that saw the Caps outshoot Brandon 41- 20. Taylor McVannel led the Caps with 2 goals while single markers were registered by Jennifer Bell and Stephanie Fehr. Assists were credited to Madisyn Peters (2), Nikki Bell, Callan Harland, Karissa Kirkup and Jillene Rodgers. Brandon took a 1-0 lead after some very good Caps pressure early however the Caps made it 1-1 with only 7 seconds remaining in the 1st period on Jennifer Bell's 3rd of the season as she had slid into the high slot and took a perfect feed off the cycle from Jillene Rodgers. McVannel's 1st made it 2-1 after she banged in a rebound while Stephanie Fehr scored the nicest goal of the evening by one timing a pass in the slot from Karissa Kirkup who along with Callan Harland created the play with a great cycle down low in the Brandon end. The 2nd intermission score was 3-1. Taylor McVannel made it 4-1 as she took a perfect pass from Natasha Kotenko on a rush just 13 seconds into the 3rd period. Brandon got one back but Abby Cathcart shut the door and picked up the win for the Caps in net. Although Cathcart was not as busy as her Brandon counterpart she made 3-4 huge saves when the score was 2-1 to maintain the Caps lead with one being a great reaction save on a point blank shot from the slot during a penalty kill.
