Caps defeat CP Senior Womens Team 5-3

   The Caps defeated the Central Plains Senior Womens team 5-3 in a fast paced game played in MacGregor on Sunday. The Caps controlled a large part of the game however solid goaltending and defensive play by the CP Senior Women kept the game close throughout. Chelsea Guy made several very good saves for for the CP team while Mykala Rodgers was steady in net for the Caps in allowing 3 goals on 24 shots, the Caps fired 43 at the CP net. 
   Alyson Vercaigne opened the scoring for the Caps with assists going to Callan Harland and Lindsay Blight. CP tied it up on a goal by Pam May and took their only lead of the game shortly after when Brittany Thomson scored off an assist from May.
    The Caps tied it up prior to the end of the first on a very nice goal by Courtney Nichol on a 2 on 1 when she used her teammate as a decoy and slid the puck past a surprised Guy in net. Assist on the play went to LIndsay Blight.
    The Caps scored the only goal of the 2nd period as Natasha Kostenko beat Guy from the slot on a feed from Nikki Bell, the second assist went to Shaye Nelissen. 
    The Caps came out flying in the 3rd period and scored the first 2 goals as Jenna Cyrenne put the puck into the open net after linemates Callan Harland and Alyson Vercaigne moved it down low until Cyrenne came open. Jillene Rodgers made the score 5-2 when she picked up the puck in the slot off of a point shot from Nelissen and beat guy with a quick shot from the slot. Katie Nichol also assisted on the goal. The CP team would score a late goal by Heather Manns to make the final score 5-3.

2 Caps used as APs in Manitoba Womens Junior Hockey League
Katie Nichol and Shaye Nelissen were used as affiliate players (AP) by the Polar Ice of the MWJHL on Saturday night in a league game vs. the Silvertips. Nichols the only graduating player this year on the Caps picked up an assist and played solid defence while being paired up with her teammate Nelissen throughout the game. Both Nichol and Nelissen saw regular shifts and were utilized on the Penalty Kill and Power Play. Nelissen also had several changes to score in the game which saw the Polar Ice earn a 4-2 empty net victory. Nichol and Nelissen were on the ice when the Polar Ice scored the winning goal with just under 3 minutes to go on a Power Play. Nelissen was also out with the score 3-2 and the Silvertips' goalie pulled when they scored into the empty net to secure the win.
Both Caps players looked solid in their first AP opportunity with the MWJHL.
