CAPS DEFEAT BATTLEFORD TO CLOSE OUT SASKATOON TOURNAMENT
The Caps got 2 goals from their leading scorer Natasha Kostenko along with single markers from Shaye Nelissen and Taylor McVannel to go along with shutout goaltending from Jacey Schettler to earn a victory over the Battleford Sharks of the Saskatchewan AAA league.
The Caps jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and never looked back controlling a large part of the game with a strong forecheck and good cycle in the offensive zone. The Caps fired 39 shots at the Battleford net while Schettler stopped all 19 directed her way and held a 4-0 advantage after the 2nd period
The Caps received strong performances from all their players especially on the Penalty Kill as they allowed Battleford very little offensive opportunities.
The Coaching staff was very pleased with the Caps first ever trip outside of Manitoba as the team showed they could pay with the Best teams in Western Canada and could have easily picked up a couple more wins.

CAPS LOSE 6-0 TO PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE IN SASKATOON
The Caps played POE on Saturday and came out on the wrong end of a 6-0 score. POE located in BC is a Program made of players from all over Canada and Europe with several involved in Under 18 National Team Programs.
Jacey Schettler was great in net for the Caps stopping 41of 47 shots on goal as the Caps gave up the most shots on net they have all year to a team that is undefeated against Midget Aged teams this season. The POE team has only suffered 1 loss all year and that came against the Swedish Olympic Team who are ranked 3rd in the world in Women's Hockey and is in BC already preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The Caps battled hard and actually had some early scoring chances but could not connect. After the POE scored their first goal the Caps became defensive and found themselves trailing 3-0 after the 1st period. The 2nd saw a better team effort but the offensive power of POE still found a way to build the intermission lead to 6-0.
The Caps played a solid 3rd period picking up their pace against the toughest opponent they have faced all year and held the POE to a scoreless period. Unfortunately they could not generate a goal on 3-4 good scoring chances.
The Caps coaching staff has been very pleased with the team's performance in their first 3 games in their first trip outside of Manitoba against extremely tough competition. The team could have easily won their their first 2 games and the team's effort and play has been high. THe Caps play their last game of the Tournament vs. Battleford at 8:30 Sunday morning.
CAPS LOSE 2-1 to the DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
For the second game in a row the Caps played an outstanding against a very tough opponent, the Westman Wildcats, only to come out on the short end of a 2-1 score. The defending National Champions jumped on the Caps for 2 goals early in the first period when the Caps appeared to have some early game jitters. From that point on the game was a fast paced end to end battle that saw the Caps pull to within one goal by the end of the first period. Courtney Nichol scored on a goal mouth scramble following some very good pressure in the offensive end by the Caps.
Jessica Hewko started in net for the Caps and was solid between the pipes however had to be replaced in the second period due to an injury that saw her go to hospital with a hip problem. The Caps also lost forward Jillen Rodgers to injury early in the game shortening the bench.
The Caps kept pressing and had good scoring chaces throughout the third and several with the goalie pulled however could not find the bounce to tie the game.

CAPS SUFFER TOUGH 2-1 LOSS to OPEN SASKATOON TOURNAMENT
The Caps travelled to Saskatoon on Thursday to open the Saskatoon Stars Tournament vs. the Host team in their first ever tournament outside of Manitoba. Unfortunately the Caps were missing 3-4 players due to exam commitments and had to skate with 12. That however did not deter the effort of the team that battled one of the top 4 teams in the Saskatchewan AAA league even for the entire game and at times carried the play.
The teams battled to a scoreless 1st period with the Caps looking somewhat tired from a 9 hour bus ride. However from that point on the Caps picked up their level of play and the game was a fast paced back in forth contest which either team could have won.
Saskatoon jumped out to a 1-0 second period lead however Shaye Nelissen responded for the Caps with an unassisted marker when she intercepted a Stars clearing pass stepped into the high slot and scored on a slap shot to the top corner. The 2nd ended with the teams tied at 1.
The lone marker of the third was scored by Saskatoon with just over 5 minutes to play. The Caps had numerous scoring chances however even with the goalie pulled could not find the equalizer. Jacey Schettler was in net for the Caps and played an outstanding game stopping 32 of 34 shots fired her way especially in the first period when the Caps were finding their stride. The Caps responded with 33 shots.
