FEMALE CAPS HAND OUT YEAR END AWARDS
Lindsay Blight - CAPS MVP
The Central Plains Awards Banquet was held at the CanadInn in Portage la Prairie on Friday April 8th. The Female Caps again joined the AAA Capitals and Junior Capitals for a great evening with their parents and guests in celebrating Central Plains Regional Hockey. The Female Caps finished off the evening as the last group to present their Awards this year following a great dinner and refreshments.
The Female Caps graduate 6 players from the program this season and 5 of the 1993 group were the first to play 3 years with the Caps as a Stand-alone Program within the MFMHL. Team Captain Lindsay Blight was a big winner as she was named MVP and shared the Sportsmanship and Leadership Award with Callan Harland. Maggie Girard picked up the Top Scorer and Most Assists Awards. Graduating veterans Courtney Nichol and Jillene Rodgers were named the team's Top Defensive Players while 2 first year midget defense, Jordan Robertson and Breanna Murner received the Most Improved Player Awards.
The Coaches Award was handed out to three players. Kelsey Desilets, Jacey Schettler and Stephanie Fehr were recognized for their dedication, work ethic and contributions to the team on and off the ice.
The first awards handed out in the evening and one the team puts tremendous importance on is the Scholastic Award. This season there were 6 players who earned the awards for attaining Academic Standings of over 92% while making significant contributions to the Caps Hockey Program. The team handed out awards to Jacey Schettler, Alyson Vercaigne, Kelsey Desilets, Maggie Girard, Megan Tully and Taylor McVannel.
The 1994 players then thanked the graduating players and gave them gifts of flowers from the team. This was followed by the Graduating Players thanking the Coaching Staff of Ferdi Nelissen, Derek Blight, Mike Vercaigne and Venesa Taylor and giving them great Chairs with the team logo stitched in.

As well the Female Caps Organization would like to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to Derek Blight for the last 3 years where he has assisted in coaching and mentoring our players. Derek has indicated he will not be returning at this time for the 2011-12 season. Derek has been a tremendous resource for the team and has brought a great knowledge of the game to share with our players. His contributions were more than just as a coach as he freely dedicated his time to improve the entire program over the past 3-4 years.
