CAPS FINISH SHOWCASE WITH WIN
The Caps picked up a 5-0 win over the Eastman Selects in the final game of their first annual Preseason Showcase to finish off the weekend with a record of 3-0-1. The Caps outshot Eastman 40-9 for the game however did not score until the 2nd period. Hannah Dalrymple and Courtlyn Oswald each netted a pair of goals for the Caps with Madison Dreger also scoring. The weekend was a solid effort for the Caps who moved their record to 5-1-1 on the season. Other scores on the final day of the Showcase:

Thank you to all teams in attendance for great weekend of very competitive AAA Midget Hockey and to the Universities/Colleges in attendance from the CIS, NCAA and ACAC. Another big thank you to Lisa Peters from the University of Manitoba for an informative presentation to players and parents about CIS opportunities and differences between the CIS and NCAA. Thank you to Hockey Canada Regional Scout Laura Solberg for speaking to teams about Hockey Canada Programs and Scouting.
The Caps are already looking forward to next season's event that we plan to make bigger and better.
CAPS TIE AND WIN ON DAY 2 OF SHOWCASE
The Caps earned a solid 2-2 tie with the Winnipeg Avros in their first game on Saturday at their Preseason Showcase. The game was a fast paced contest that saw the Caps outshoot their opponents 31-22. The Caps fell behind 1-0 after the 1st period however goals by Chantal Gamache in the 2nd and 3rd periods gave the Caps a 2-1 lead before the Avros would equalize the score at 2-2 on a powerplay with under 7 minutes remaining in the game. Elisha Oswald was solid in the Caps net stopping 21 of 22 shots fired her way.
In the 2nd game of the day vs. the Swift Current Wildcats the Caps controlled a majority of the play throughout the game but had to come back from another 1-0 1st period deficit. The Caps outshot the Wildcats 28-10 however needed 3rd period goals from Autumn Garnham and Courtlyn Oswald to pick up the win. Robin Thiessen picked up the win in net for the Caps. The Win left the Caps with a 2-0-1 record heading into their final game on Sunday at 3:00 pm vs. the Eastman Selects.

Highlights for the day continued to be the scouting by various NCAA, CIS and ACAC schools of the event including the addition of DI Top 10 Bemidji State along with a presentation by University of Manitoba Bison Assistant Coach Lisa Peters on CIS athletics and education plus differences between CIS and NCAA programs as she was a 4 year player for Bemidji State. Lisa also informed players and parents in attendance on things they should be considering, looking for and asking when going through the process of deciding on what program is the BEST fit for them.
Laura Solberg, Regional Scout for Hockey Canada, also stopped into team dressing rooms to give the players a 3-4 minute insight into the National Team Programs and scouting system.
The Final Day of the Capitals first annual Preseason Showcase will see 5 more games with the first contest starting at 10:00 am.
Caps Start Preseason Showcase with Win
The Caps started their first ever showcase with a 3-1 win over the Norman Wild. The Caps got goals from Chatal Gamache, Madison Dreger and Booke-Lyn Riley as they outshot the Wild 58-12. Robin Thiessen picked up the win for the Caps and although not busy made 3-4 huge saves as the game remained close on the socreboard including stopping 2 breakaways. The Caps now play 2 games on Saturday at 10:00 am and 4:45 pm vs. the Winnipeg Avros and Swift Current Wildcats. Other scores in the event on Day 1 were:

The event was well attended on the first day with University Souts on hand from Wisconsin-Superior, Providence, Cornell, Manitoba, Maine and NAIT along with a Regional Scout from Hockey Canada. More schools are expected on Day 2. COME OUT AND CATCH THE ACTION!
