CAPITALS START SEASON WITH 2 WINS AND 1TIE
The Capitals traveled to Melville Saskatchewan to start their season with 3 games over the Sept. 21-22 weekend coming away with 2 wins and a tie.
In their first game of the season the Capitals played MFMHL rivals Yellowhead Chiefs and battled to a 0-0 tie. The game was evenly played with the Chiefs holding a slight edge in shots at 24-21 however the Capitals appeared to have more quality scoring chances plus hit 3 posts. Robin Thiessen stopped all 24 shots in net for the Caps to record the shutout with a large number of these coming on 5 PKs.
The second game of the weekend saw the Capitals came away with a 3-1 win over the host Melville Prairie Fire. Courtlyn Oswald scored twice with Sheridan Oswald adding the other Caps goal. Assists went to Courtlyn Oswald, Sheridan Oswald, Hannah Dalrymple and Kyla Piskor. Elisha Oswald earned the win in net stopping 11 of 12 shots fired her way while the Caps fired 34 at the Melville net.
In a rematch with the host Prairie Fire on Sunday morning Robin Thiessen picked up her second shutout of the weekend as the Caps skated to an impressive 6-0 decision. The Caps were led offensively by Sheridan Oswald who nothced 4 goals and added an assist while Hannah Dalrymple added a goal and 2 assists. Tamara McVannel also scored for the Caps with Courtlyn Oswald picking up 2 asissts while single helpers were recorded by Eryn Stewart, Liz Stewart, Kyla Piskor, Emily Upgang and Leandra Timmerman.
