The Caps finished the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record in their 2nd annual Preseason Showcase completing the preseason with a 6-0-1 record. During the Showcase held at the PCU Centre they recorded wins over the Winnipeg Ice (6-1), Norman Wild (4-1), Yellowhead Chiefs (1-0) and Swift Current Wildcats (3-1) sending the Caps into their upcoming MFMHL regular season play on a high note.
The Caps opened the weekend with a 6-1 win over the Winnipeg Ice on Friday as six different players potted goals, Taylor Boehlig, Katie McCartney, Tamara McVannel, Sheridan Oswald, Leandra Timmerman and Emily Upgang. Robin Thiessen got the win between the pipes.
Saturday morning, the Caps trailed Norman 1-0 after the first period before responding with four unanswered goals to record a 4-1 win. McCartney, Upgang and Sheridan and Courtlyn Oswald scored while Elisha Oswald made 20 saves in net.
The Caps' third game of the weekend was a much tougher test but they fought hard to pick up a 1-0 win against Yellowhead with Upgang scoring the lone marker. Thiessen earned the shutout.
In their final game against the Swift Current Wildcats, the Caps picked up a 3-1 win to claim the perfect record for the weekend. The Caps held a 1-0 lead through most of the game as Tamara McVannel scored midway through the 1st period with Swift Current responding with a goal half way through the 3rd period. This did not deter the Caps as they responded right off the centre ice faceoff 19 seconds later with Hannah Dalrymple scoring what would be the game winner before Sheridan Oswald netted an insurance goal 40 seconds later. From here the Caps held off the Wildcats with some serious pressure coming on a 5 on 3 penalty kill. Elisha Oswald picked up the win in net for the Caps.
The Coaching Staff was pleased with the overall play of the young Caps especially how they played with intensity and utilized their speed throughout the lineup. They also discovered some items they will working on this week as they prepare to open their MFMHL Regular season vs. Yellowhead at the PCU Centre on Saturday October 5 - Game Time is 7:30 pm.
