LEANDRA TIMMERMAN COMMITS TO ST. MARY'S
The Capitals entire organization is pleased to announce that third year Central Plains Capitals defense Leandra Timmerman has commited to attend school at and play hockey for St. Mary's University located in Halifax Nova Scotia commencing the fall of 2015. The Huskies play out of the Atlantic University Sport Conference of the CIS.
Timmerman has been a main stay on the Capitals defense which was the best in the MFMHL this season playing big minutes against the oppositions top players as well as on both the penalty kill and power play helping the Capitals to their first MFMHL Championship and a trip to Hockey Canada's Esso Cup National Championship. During her career with the Capitals Timmerman played in 143 games notching 8 goals and 28 assists for 36 points. During her time with the Capitals Timmerman has earned the Most Improved Player Award, Sportsmanship and Leadership Award, Coaches Award , 3 Academic Awards and Hockey Manitoba's Abbie Coo Memorial Scholarship. Timmerman was also part of the 2014 Team Central that won a Silver Medal at the Manitoba Games.
The Capitals wants to congratulate Leandra on her outstanding accomplishments to date and wishes her all the best with her future academic and hockey endeavors while at St. Mary's University.
McVANNEL COMMITS TO UNIVERSITY OF REGINA
The Central Plains Capitals are pleased to announce that 4th year defense Tamara McVannel has committed to attend school at and play hockey for the University of Regina. McVannel an Alternate Captain with the Capitals will attend the University of Regina located in Regina Saskatchewan commencing the fall of 2015. The Cougars compete in the CIS Canada West Hockey Conference and last season lost in the conference championship series.
McVannel who hails from MacGregor started playing with the Capitals as a Major Bantam and over her playing career has scored 15 goals and added 55 assists in 158 games. Known for her high compete and skill levels McVannel is a team leader who is a key member of both the Capitals' power play and penalty kill. Over her career with the Capitals McVannel has been named the team's Top Defensive Player 3 times while also earning Academic Achievement Awards all 3 seasons. Last season McVannel also earned a Silver Medal with Team Central at the Manitoba Winter Games, was named MFMHL Second Team All-star and made the Final 28 of Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence. McVannel is also an outstanding fastpitch softball player who has attended several National Championships while being named the Top Player in Manitoba in her age group.
