Week 17 ending Feb. 1, 2015

Forward Emily Upgang of the Central Plains Capitals is the Selkirk Source for Sports-Reebok MFMHL Player of the Week.  Upgang a Grade 11 student from Poplar Point, MB. in her second season was an impact player for the Capitals as she scored the game winning goal in their first game before adding a goal and assisting on the game winner to secure a 2 for 2 weekend for the Capitals. On Friday January 30 Upgang scored the game winning goal in tough 2-1 road win vs. Pembina Valley before leading the Capitals past the Winnipeg Avros the following night 4-3 helping her team move into second place in the MFMHL standings. Upgang sits 5th in MFMHL scoring with 24 points and is second in scoring with the Capitals registering 16 goals and 13 assists in 41 games. Upgang was one of the Top 5 scorers in the 2014 Manitoba Winter Games where she earned a Silver Medal with Team Central and was selected to participate in Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence Top 40 Camp.


Week Ending January 11, 2015

Goalie Lauren Taraschuk of the Central Plains Capitals is the Selkirk Source for Sports-Reebok MFMHL Player of the Week.  Taraschuck a Grade 10 student from  Winnipeg, MB. in her first season was an impact player for the Capitals as she helped her team win 2 games vs. the defending champion Pembina Valley Hawks by recording back to back shutouts moving the Capitals into second place in the tight MFMHL standings. In two 3-0 wins over the Hawks Taraschuk stopped a total of 53 shots. In 11 MFMHL games this season Taraschuk is 10-1 with league leading 0.64 GAA and a tremendous .971 save percentage.


December 2014

The MFMHL GDI (Goaltender Development Institute) Goalie of the Month for December is Kathleen Kosior of the Central Plains Capitals. Kosior, who is in her third MFMHL season hails from Winnipeg MB, recorded 2 wins vs. 0 losses while recording 1 shutout. Kosior had a GAA of 0.50 and a save % of over .980 in December. To date this season Kosior has a GAA of 1.11 and save % of .928 in MFMHL play with a 6-2 record and for  season with the Capitals Kosior has an 11-5-1 record with a GAA of 1.18 while recording 6 shutouts.


Week 12 ending Dec. 21, 2014

Forward Sheridan Oswald of the Central Plains Capitals is the Selkirk Source for Sports-Reebok MFMHL Player of the Week.  Oswald a Grade 11 student from  MacGregor, MB. in her fourth season was an impact player for the Capitals as she helped her team win 2 games this past week by scoring the a game winner and then assisting on another game winner.  Oswald scored the second goal for the Capitals vs. the Winnipeg Avros in a 2-1 victory moving them into first place before adding an assist on the game winner in a 2-1 victory over the Eastman Selects. Oswald is currently fifth in MFMHL scoring with 18 points while leading her team with 36 points in 35 games to date. Oswald was just named as an Alternate Captain to the U18 Team Manitoba that will participate in the Canada Games in February.


November 2014

The MFMHL GDI (Goaltender Development Institute) Goalie of the Month for November is Lauren Taraschuk of the Central Plains Capitals. Taraschuk who hails from Winnipeg MB had a record of 4 wins and 0 losses for the month while recording 1 shutout. During the 4 MFMHL games Taraschuk played in November she had a GAA of 1.00 and a save % of over .950. To date this season Taraschuk leads the MFMHL with a GAA of 0.86 and save % of .951 while posting a MFMHL record of 6-1 and an overall record of 11-2-1 with the Capitals.


Week 4 ending October 26, 2014

Goaltender Lauren Taraschuk of the Central Plains Capitals is the Selkirk Source for Sports-Reebok MFMHL Player of the Week.  Taraschuk a Grade 10 student from Winnipeg, MB. was an impact player for the Capitals as they became the first team in the  MFMHL to knock off the first place Yellowhead Chiefs. Taraschuk stopped 19 of 20 shots including making numerous strong safes on the penalty kill during regulation and overtime before stopping 2 of 3 shooters in the shootout to give the Capitals a huge win. Taraschuk leads the MFMHL in GAA at 0.67 and save %  .966.
